Emotions and Business

Last week I reflected on how the management consultant could help the business look at business emotionally free.
Here is the link to a very good documentary done by BBC about large strategic mistakes which cost their owners a business. Who knows if they had had someone who could had critically evaluate the strategy, we would have other leading companies in online shopping and low-cost airlines.

Benefits of Hiring a Management Consultant: Part 2

Last week I discussed how the emotional benefits of the management consultant. What are other  benefits?

Running a business is becoming more and more complicated over the years. Someone, say a business owner, cannot know everything about everything. Moreover, it is very difficult to have on board people who know everything about everything as that expertise and knowledge might be in demand only once a year.

This is particular true about SMEs as they have allocate their resources wisely. It is here where the management consultant can come in. They could come on board at the moment when their knowledge and skills are required, do their job and move one. This is cheaper than hiring a specialist full-time, more efficient as the management consultant would be an expert in their field.

For example, my professional expertise lies in the field of management audit, operations and process management and marketing research and survey. Thus, the other benefit is management consultant's knowledge and expertise.

Next week I will reflect on management audit and why it is important.

Benefits of Hiring a Management Consultant: Part 1

My clients are small and medium companies led by highly successful individuals. So, here is the question - why do they work with a management consultant?

The answer is not very apparent. Entrepreneurs do know how to run the business, they have a lot of experience and knowledge, etc. So, thinking rationally there is no point of hiring the management consultant as they would not be able to contribute something totally new to the business.

What they can bring is their freedom in judgement. Being a business owner one would be able to realize that something is going wrong but not be able to identify the cause of the problem. This is because the owner is emotionally bonded with the business which they have been nurtured for years and love.

By contrast, the consultant is not bonded with the business. Lack of emotional bonds helps them looking at the business objectively and judge the situation freely. Thus, the one of the benefits is the consultant's objectivity.

Why the Blog?

I have launched my web-site The Management Consultant before Christmas last year. It appeared that the web-site itself is useless unless one promotes it on the Web on daily basis. So, I started using social media: Facebook and LinkedIn .

More interestingly is how my personality is changing. I have never been someone who would like to share publicly what they are thinking about. But this is about to change...

I have started to look around looking for news, events and objects to talk about. Gradually, the formats of Facebook and LinkedIn have become a little bit small for me. And, here I am, I am writing a blog.

What am I going to write about? Being a management consultant it would rather strange to write about gardening or football.

It would about management and how it affects our everyday life. Many things which one would take for granted are reflections of good or bad management practice. I come across of those reflections quite often and would like to share them with others.

Welcome!

Hello!

Let me introduce myself

My name is Andrey Beskrovnyy. I am a self-employed management consultant and an owner of this blog which is called "The Management Consultant".

Why did I call it the Management Consultant? The idea came to my mind when I chose the domain name for my web-site. "Management Consultant" name had been taken and I decided to go for "the" in front of "Management Consultant".

That officially makes me the only management consultant in the world according to English grammar:)

What else about myself?  I am Russian and I have a very lovely wife Tanya who is a psychotherapist. Also, I stammer a bit and, therefore, British Stammering Association is one of my clients.

Why have I decided starting blog? What will I write in the blog?

I shall discuss this in the upcoming blogs.
